The firewalls of yesterday just aren't cutting it anymore: attacks are more complex and sophisticated, the volume and variations of traffic are greater than ever and the types of event data we need for security operations vary greatly. In addition, organizations have to cope with an increasing number of insider threats and can't rely any longer on conventional network security devices to ferret out intrusions. To help overcome these challenges, McAfee Next Generation Firewall (NGFW) boasts a number of advanced features and availability options that can help security teams monitor and protect their networks more effectively than ever. SANS had the opportunity to review McAfee NGFW in a test environment, exploring a number of capabilities: clustering and redundancy, numerous varieties of VPN access, policy options and features such as end-user identification and advanced anti-evasion tools. In this review, we'll dive into the features of the product, walking through our experiences configuring McAfee NGFW with an emphasis on ease-of-use and operations.
