With a career spanning more than 15 years in information security, Kristopher Russo has a deep understanding of how cybersecurity essentials are applied across a range of industries. As a consultant at Unit 42, he brings to client engagements an extensive knowledge of incident response, threat hunting, forensics, and risk management, as well as a deep understanding of threat actors’ tactics and of how to identify and deploy countermeasures that fit an organization’s unique risk profile.

Kristopher joined the team in 2020 from Herman Miller, the office furniture and home furnishings manufacturer, where he was an information security analyst architect. There, he led multi-discipline incident response teams through high-profile incidents involving malware infection, data exposure, insider threats, authority to operate attacks, and business email compromise. Before that, he was a consulting architect and business process consultant for ITS Partners, where he designed and implemented vulnerability management programs, incident response platforms, and large security platform implementation projects for clients in the government, retail, financial, and medical sectors.

Earlier, Kristopher spent 12 years at Meijer, the large Michigan-based retailer, initially as a security engineer leading incident response in cases involving ransomware, malware infection, retail fraud, and insider threats, and later as manager of IT risk and compliance.

Kristopher earned his bachelor’s degree in information security and intelligence from Ferris State University and his associate degree in computer and information sciences from Grand Rapids Community College. He holds a number of industry certifications, including GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC Gold), GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH), and AccessData Certified Examiner.
