SANS Institute, the world's most trusted and largest provider of cyber security training and certification, announces that places are still available for its 2018 Digital Forensics and Incident Response Summit (DFIR), taking place in Prague in early October.

The annual SANS DFIR Summit is the most comprehensive event of its kind, bringing together an influential group of experts, immersion-style training and industry networking opportunities, all in one place. Attendees are provided with the opportunity to learn how to overcome the latest obstacles in DFIR through learning and sharing proven strategies for cyber defence.

The Summit takes place on 1 October, with one day of highly technical digital forensics and incident response presentations from the industry's top practitioners, followed by the opportunity to network with like-minded DFIR professionals. The Summit is co-chaired by SANS instructors and industry experts Jess Garcia, Jason Jordaan and Mathias Fuchs. Keynotes include:

  • Cutting the Wrong Wire: How a Clumsy Attacker Revealed a Global Cryptojacking Campaign - by Renato Marinho, Chief Research Officer at Morphus Labs
  • BYOM - Build Your Own Methodology (in Mobile Forensics) - by Mattia Epifani, Digital Forensics Analyst at REALITY NET and SANS instructor
  • 1+1 is Not Always 2: Bypassing Multi-Factor Authentication - by Jeff Hamm, Technical Director at Mandiant

From 2-7 October, the event continues with eight DFIR courses aimed at helping professionals in the industry build their arsenal of defences, and learn how to better protect their organisations. Sessions to choose from include:

  • SEC504: Hacker Tools, Techniques, Exploits, and Incident Handling
  • FOR585: Advanced Smartphone Forensics
  • FOR526: Memory Forensics In-Depth

Finally, on Friday and Saturday 5-6 October, attendees have the opportunity to participate in one of the biggest DFIR NetWars tournaments of the year. The SANS DFIR NetWars Tournament is an incident simulator packed with a vast amount of forensic and incident response challenges, for individual or team-based 'firefights.'

NetWars is developed by incident responders and forensic analysts who use these skills daily to stop data breaches and solve complex crimes. When a single mistake can place an organisation at a greater risk, the DFIR NetWars Tournament is unique in that it provides time-limited challenges that can be used to test the skills professionals have mastered and, at the same time, help identify skills that might be missing. This year's theme is "The Coin Slayer" and is offered for the first time at DFIR Prague.

"Our mission at SANS is to deliver cutting-edge information security knowledge and skills to all students to help them protect their organisation's people and assets," commented Jan-Pieter Spaans, Managing Director Mainland Europe, SANS Institute. "DFIR Pragues agenda is jam-packed with knowledge, immersive training sessions and practical exercises that will equip today's cyber security professionals with the skills needed to better defend us from the attacks of tomorrow. And there might even be some fun involved too!"
