SANS to Offer an Interactive Look at Cyber Crime and Today's Threat Landscape at Las Vegas Network Security Training Event

Security Experts James Lyne and Stephen Sims to Present Keynote Address

SANS Institute, the global leader in information security training, today announced the keynote address for the SANS Network Security 2016 taking place September 10 - 19 in Las Vegas. The keynote address, An Interactive Look at Cyber Crime & Today's Threat Landscape, will be delivered by James Lyne, director of Technology Strategy at Sophos and Stephen Sims, author of SANS' only 700-level course, SEC760: Advanced Exploit Development for Penetration Testers. The address will cover the most common attack trends, malicious software and techniques used by adversaries today.

"Cyber criminals are seemingly always one step ahead of our efforts to maintain an acceptable level of security. This is because they closely monitor the landscape for changes and actively respond when changes occur. To turn the table on attackers, defenders must maintain a cutting-edge skillset and properly architect a defensible network," said Stephen Sims.

Join Sims and Lyne at SANS Network Security where they will share demonstrations of exploiting both publicly disclosed and privately disclosed vulnerabilities involving applications such as Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office, and Skype. They will also discuss defensive tools and techniques to help mitigate the threats.

SANS Network Security 2016 will feature more than 45 hands-on, immersion-style security training courses taught by real-world practitioners. Attendees also have the opportunity to participate in two different, hands-on, interactive security challenges. Core NetWars Tournament is a computer and network security challenge designed to test a participant's experience and skills in a safe environment. DFIR NetWars Tournament is an incident simulator packed with a vast amount of forensic and incident response challenges, for individuals or teams. NetWars and DFIR NetWars are a great way for participants to test the skills they've mastered and to identify areas that are missing.
