SANS Institute to Host Digital Forensics and Incident Response Summit in Austin, Texas

James Dunn, Director of Global Investigative and Forensic Services at Sony Pictures Entertainment to Keynote the Event

  • Bethesda, MD
  • June 8, 2015

SANS Institute, the global leader in information security training, today announced the Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR) Summit 2015 to take place July 7 - 8 in Austin, Texas. In conjunction with the Summit, SANS will host an intensive hands-on DFIR training event July 9 - 14. From hunting for the adversary before and during an incident to identifying, extracting, prioritizing, and leveraging intelligence from APT intrusions, the DFIR summit and training event will arm forensic experts and incident responders with the necessary information to counter complicated emerging cyber incidents.

"The DFIR Summit is always a promising and exciting display of talent, passion, and experience. SANS and the team here are really the sharpest in the industry for DFIR - there is no comparison," said Robert M. Lee, SANS instructor and co-founder of Dragos Security LLC.

The summit brings together some of the industry's top DFIR and security experts to discuss the most innovative DFIR topics today including ubiquity forensics (iCloud), Windows 8 SRUM forensics, BYOD, threat analysis of complex attacks, and much more. Attendees will also learn about the latest tools and techniques for detecting and responding to today's most complex threats. Some of the forensic experts that will join keynote speaker James Dunn at the summit include:

  • Dmitry Bestuzhev, Head of the Global Research and Analysis Team, Latin America, Kaspersky Lab
  • Devon Kerr, Senior Consultant, Mandiant, A FireEye Company
  • Sara Newcomer, Computer Forensic Examiner, Lockheed Martin
  • Chris Petersen, Chief Technology Officer, LogRhythm
  • Lee Whitfield, Director of Forensics, Digital Discovery
  • Jon Turner, Security Service Engineer, Microsoft Corp.

The DFIR summit and training will ensure incident responders and investigators walk away with the understanding of what they are up against, how to detect and fight it. SANS DFIR classes and the two-day summit will fortify attendees for proactive forensics success.
