SANS Security Training Event Targets Growth in San Diego's Cyber Security Workforce

Top Cyber Security Practitioners to Provide Insight into Emerging Security Trends and How to Stay Ahead of the Latest Cyber Security Threats

  • April 2, 2015

To address the growing demand for cyber security professionals in the Greater San Diego Area, SANS Institute, the global leader in information security training, will host its largest West Coast security training event in San Diego May 3 - 12. SANS Security West will offer more than 20 hands-on, immersion-style security courses for both budding and seasoned security professionals. In addition, attendees will learn about the latest threats and new security approaches to protect against these threats during a special keynote address, followed by multiple panel discussions on emerging security trends.

"To be successful in cyber security you have to stay ahead of attackers. SANS Security West will provide insight into the latest threats and teach attendees what they can do to mitigate these threats," said John Pescatore, director of Emerging Trends for the SANS Institute. "SANS has pulled together a stellar team of top cyber security practitioners who will share the security approaches and solutions they are using to successfully fend off attacks. Attendees will leave this training with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement what they learned immediately upon returning to their jobs."

"San Diego is one of the nation's leading security hubs with a number of major corporations and numerous start-ups focused on solutions," noted Darin Andersen, Chairman and Founder of CyberTECH, which is based in San Diego and is one of the nation's leading cybersecurity and IoT based ecosystem networks. "SANS' commitment to develop a cybersecurity workforce in the San Diego region mirrors ours and we look forward to partnering with them."

SANS Security West will feature a number of bonus evening sessions that provide a glimpse into the future of APTs, new attack vectors, and the tools, techniques, and processes employed by the industry's top security professionals to stay ahead of adversaries. Hands-on immersion style training will ensure attendees are able to put into practice what they learn at the event. Attendees will also have an opportunity to test what they have learned by participating in NetWars tournaments. In these capture-the-flag (CTF) style events, participants will test their new security skills as they attempt to solve challenges while competing against the clock and each other.

For women considering a career in cyber security, or for those already in the field hoping to advance their careers, SANS Security West will feature a Women in Technology Networking event. This event provides a unique opportunity for women to network with some of today's most successful women in IT.
