Hands-On Immersion Training Covers Offensive and Defensive Tactics

The SANS Institute today announced its return to New Orleans with SANS Security East 2015 taking place January 16 -21. To kick off the New Year, top security experts from around the country will come together to share the most effective steps to prevent attacks and detect adversaries. Attendees of SANS Security East will learn actionable techniques that they can directly apply when they return to work.

"Keeping pace with the latest technology and threats is a daunting task. With much of the focus on prevention, security professionals are overlooking a critical component, the detection of adversaries. As a result hackers are going undetected," said Dr. Eric Cole, SANS Faculty Fellow and Director of the SANS Cyber Defense Program. "Despite an organization's best efforts, some attacks will be successful. Network security needs to be constantly improved to prevent as many attacks as possible and to swiftly detect and respond appropriately if a breach occurs. SANS Security East will help organizations gain the necessary knowledge to develop a complete security lifecycle program with its unique focus on prevention, detection, and response."

SANS Security East offers a range of security training courses for both budding and highly seasoned information security professionals. SEC401: Security Essentials Bootcamp Style teaches the most effective steps to prevent attacks and detect adversaries. Attendees will learn tips and tricks from the experts necessary to win the battle against a wide range of cyber adversaries. SANS will also offer SEC501: Advanced Security Essentials - Enterprise Defender which builds on a solid foundation of core policies and practices of preventing and detecting adversaries to enable security teams to effectively defend their enterprise.

SANS' popular course SEC503: Intrusion Detection In-Depth delivers the technical knowledge, insight, and hands-on training needed to defend a network with confidence. Basic exercises include assistive hints while advanced options provide a more challenging experience for students who may already know the material or who have quickly mastered new material. In addition, most exercises include "an extra credit stumper" question intended to challenge even the most advanced student.

All of the courses offered at SANS Security East are associated with GIAC Certifications. For a complete list of courses or to register, please visit:
