SANS Institute to Host its 9th Annual ICS Security Summit and Training

Top SCADA Security Experts Come Together to Share the Latest Techniques for Protecting Industrial Control Systems and Critical Infrastructure

  • Bethesda, MD
  • February 18, 2014

SANS Institute today announced the 9th annual Industrial Control System (ICS) Security Summit and Training in Lake Buena Vista, Florida March 17 - 18, 2014. In addition to learning about the most current SCADA and control system threats and how to defend against them, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in many event exclusives including new tool releases and course debuts.

The Aegis Consortium will release the tool used in Project Robus, a fuzzer for DNP3, live at the event. Summit attendees will receive the Project Robus tool along with other items included in the ICS Security Kit. SANS will also debut its new SANS ICS410: ICS/SCADA Security Essentials course which provides foundation level ICS defense training and helps prepare students for the new Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP) certification exam.

"This year's ICS Security Summit is the place to be for ICS security professionals. SANS has pulled together a stellar line up of instructors and presenters. Top SCADA experts, key government personnel, researchers and asset owners from around the world will provide the latest insight into today's most challenging threats," said Michael Assante, SANS project lead for ICS and SCADA security. "More than just talk, this event will arm attendees with the skills to put what they've learned to use as soon as they return to their office."

The ICS Summit will feature hands-on training courses focused on attacking and defending ICS environments. CYBATI ICS mastery stations will also be included. These stations challenge attendees through a series of cyber-physical red team exercises. Stations range from beginner, intermediate to advanced and allow participants to transition through the typical ethical penetration testing lifecycle of: information gathering and analysis, vulnerability identification, penetration attempts and mitigating control recommendations. CYBATI ICS mastery stations and the SANS Cyber City products will also be made available to interested attendees.

Agenda highlights of the 2014 Summit include:

  • What's All the Fuzz About, Adam Crain, Automatak and Chris Sistrunk, Independent Researcher
  • Survival Solutions for the ICS Vulnerability Avalanche, Eric Byres, CTO, Belden
  • Out of Control: Demonstrating SCADA Exploitation, Marc Ayala, Cimation
  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Supply Chain Security-Emerging Solutions, Nadya Bartol, Utilities Telecom Council
  • New CPNI ICS Security Awareness Courses, Sandra C, CPNI

The Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP) certification is increasingly required by industry leaders for employment or consulting assignments in ICS security. The GICSP bridges together IT, engineering and cybersecurity to achieve security for industrial control systems from design through retirement. This unique vendor-neutral, practitioner-focused ICS certification is a collaborative effort between GIAC and representatives from a global industry consortium involving organizations that design, deploy, operate and/or maintain industrial automation and control system infrastructure.
