SANS Institute Announces Annual Security East Training Event in New Orleans featuring SANS Technology Institute's Master's Degree Cohort 2013-1

  • Bethesda, MD
  • November 15, 2012

To help information security professionals defend against today's complex attacks, SANS will host Security East January 16 - 23 in New Orleans, LA. SANS' cutting-edge information security training program will arm attendees with the necessary skills to fend off attacks and provides the opportunity to earn credits towards a master's degree.

SANS Security East 2013 features 11 hands-on technical courses and will be taught by some of the information security industry's top experts such as Dr. Eric Cole, Joshua Wright, and Ed Skoudis. In addition to courses, subject matter experts will deliver informative talks to help attendees broaden their knowledge and enhance their learning experience.

The SANS Technology Institute (STI) has chosen its Security East campus to kickoff the STI Cohort 2013-01. STI offers two master's degree programs, Master of Science in Information Security Engineering (MSISE) and Master of Science in Information Security Management (MSISM). STI utilizes SANS' technical courses and delivery methods as the primary source for technically related material. SANS technical courses provide current, cutting-edge material and are developed and delivered by the leading practitioners in information security. "Rather than creating 'paper tigers', STI programs equip graduates to lead by example. The depth of hands-on skills development in this program makes it unique among master's programs in cybersecurity leadership" says Toby R. Gouker, PhD, GSLC, and Chancellor/COO.

STI's unique course curricula model engages students in one or more of the various course elements including a SANS technical course, creation of a Seminar Research Paper, analysis of a portfolio of case studies, engagement in a simulated information security scenario, completing topical assignments, or satisfactory passing of a GIAC certifying exam with a pass threshold of 80% or greater. GIAC certifications are important in establishing a professional standard in a specific community of practice. GIAC exams are designed to not only test knowledge, but test a student's ability to utilize the knowledge to solve problems.
