SANS European Security Awareness Summit 2019 Helps Practitioners Tackle Continued Lack of Corporate Focus on Security Awareness

  • London, Europe
  • 17 October 2019

The recent SANS Security Awareness report found that lack of time and staffing were among the top reported roadblocks facing security awareness professionals. More than 75% of these professionals work part-time. The report also found that getting the support of management and programme buy-in is key –  69% of organisations whose managers believe that the market is investing significantly in this area consider security awareness training to be a top priority.

These issues and many more will be tackled at SANS’ 5th annual European Security Awareness Summit which takes place in London on 20th and 21st November. The Summit is preceded on 18th and 19th November by the two-day management training course: MGT433: SANS Security Awareness: How to Build, Maintain, and Measure a Mature Awareness Program.

Lance Spitzner, SANS Director, Research and Community, says:

“SANS’ European Security Awareness Summit is now in its fifth year and has become the leading event for security awareness and culture professionals around the world. Incorporating expert talks, show ‘n’ tell booths, video wars and interactive workshops, plus numerous opportunities to network with experts and fellow awareness professionals, the Summit provides lessons learned that can be applied straightaway when attendees return to their organisations, whatever the maturity level of their awareness programme.”

He continues: “This year’s two-day event will deliver expert sessions on changing company culture, engagement, applying the science of adult learning, latest methods the cyber criminals use to exploit people, building leadership support and metrics. Join us as speakers from organisations like Bank of England, Santander, Diageo, ABN AMRO Bank, Accenture, IBM, Aviva and Zurich Insurance share their experiences and lessons learned.”

This year’s keynote will be delivered by Jessica Barker, co-CEO, co-Founder and Socio-Technical lead at Cygenta. Jessica is also a member of the advisory board for SANS European Security Awareness Summit.

The event is primarily targeted at Security awareness officers but is also a good way for CISOs and those responsible for an organisation’s overall security strategy to learn how to better support their organisation’s security awareness. It is also for Compliance Officers who wish to ensure their organisation is compliant with all standards and regulations that require any type of security awareness, training, and education.
