Principle of Least AI in Threat Intelligence: A Blueprint for Effective GenAI Adoption

AI is dominating today’s conversations and priorities - both from a technology perspective and market hype. This Forrester Research serves as a practical guide for leveraging different types of AI effectively. Using what I call the “Principle of Least AI,” this research explores what it means to step into the nondeterministic world of LLMs, RAG, and the emerging “agent-ish” applications; and when to rely on deterministic tools within the same context to maximize utility while minimizing errors and complexity. Through real-world examples such as threat hunting, malware analysis, and detection engineering, I will highlight what’s available, what’s working now, and more to avoid paying the premium when it comes to AI.
