CyberTalent Admissions Information

Below you will find admissions information pertaining to each open academy. Please fully read the eligibility requirements prior to submitting your completed application package.

Assess Your Qualifications and Required Credentials for Admissions

  • Transitioning service members not more than six months away from separation.
  • Veteran less than five years out of the service. Veterans cannot be working in the information security field.
  • Active duty spouses not working in the information security field or with prior work experience from the information security field.

Preferred degrees/experience background:

Preferred degrees/experience requirements (you only need one of the three below). Info sec and audit work experience only acceptable from the military service. Those already working in a cybersecurity, civilian job are not eligible for this program.

  • Hold a bachelor's degree and have at least 1 year of work experience in information technology, information security, or audit, or
  • Hold an associate's degree and have at least 3 years of work experience in information technology, information security, or audit.
  • Those without a college degree must hold at least 3-5 years of work experience in information technology, information security, or audit.

If you meet the requirements, please follow the steps below to apply for admission.

Step 1
Request the online CTE assessment to begin the application process via immersionacademy@sans.org. Applicants MUST specify which academy they are applying to in the subject line and meet the eligibility requirements.

Step 2
Applicants will receive instructions via email on how to access the online skills and aptitude test. Based on the results from the skills and aptitude test, applicants may be invited to submit a formal application. The test includes 50 questions covering domains such as information security aptitude, operating systems security, internet security technologies to network concepts and other domains. Applicants have one attempt for the test. NO retakes are granted.

Step 3
Based on the test score, applicants may be invited to submit an application, which will include:

  1. A resume
  2. An application form
  3. An MOU
  4. Copies of transcripts (Unofficial transcript are acceptable but copies of official transcripts may be requested at a later date)

STEP 4
Applicants complete and submit their application package to immersionacademy@sans.org before the application deadline. For the application deadline, visit the 'Programs' section: https://www.sans.org/cybertalent/immersion-academy/programs

STEP 5
Application Packages will be reviewed by SANS CyberTalent Immersion Academy Admissions Committee.

  • All information and materials furnished may be verified.
  • Applicant may be scheduled for a pre-qualification interview.

STEP 6
Selected candidates will be invited to an interview with the Admissions Committee by telephone. Invitations to interview with the Admissions Committee does not guarantee admission into the program.

STEP 7
Following the interview, and if the Admissions Committee approves your application, you will receive a formal "Offer of Admission".

STEP 8
Applicants accepted into the program commits to the program scheduled, its targeted dates for course completion as outlined on the website under the program section, and the verbiage in the MOU.
