Below you will find admissions information pertaining to each open academy. Please fully read the eligibility requirements prior to submitting your completed application package.

Hampton Roads VetSuccess Academy | Women's Immersion Academy
NTT Security VetSuccess Academy
NTT Security VetSuccess Academy

SANS and NTT Security, a managed security services provider with offices in Omaha and Pittsburgh, will continue to offer the SANS VetSuccess Academy for veterans in the Pittsburgh region throughout 2017 with admissions as needed by NTT Security. This will include special rolling admissions and training via the OnDemand, Community, and Conference modalities on a case-by-case basis.

Assess Your Qualifications and Required Credentials for Admissions

All applicants must also meet the following requirements:

  • Student location in Omaha, NE or Pittsburgh, PA
  • Students must be available to attend on-site training in Omaha, NE or Pittsburgh, PA areas for the first course. Dates to be determined.
  • Degrees/experience requirements:
    • Hold a bachelor's degree and have at least 1 year of work experience in information technology, information security, or audit, or
    • Hold an associate's degree and have at least 3 years of work experience in information technology, information security, or audit.
    • Those without a college degree must hold at least 3-5 years of work experience in information technology, information security, or audit.
  • Agree to program requirements and restrictions described in the Academy/Participant MOU.

If you meet the requirements, please follow the steps below to apply for admission.

  • Step 1 - Complete Your Application Package
    1. Complete the application
    2. Submit a current resume
    3. Submit copies of your undergraduate (and graduate, if applicable) official transcripts electronically.
      Please note that we are unable to process/ receive any transcripts through your transcript ordering center.
    4. Agree to program requirements and restrictions described in the Academy/Participant Memorandum of Understanding
    5. Score at or above the 70th percentile of the online CTE aptitude and skills assessment exam*
    6. *Once applicants have filled out, signed and submitted the required documents under bullets 1-4, information on how to access the online skills and aptitude test will be provided.

  • Step 2 - Submit Your Application Package
    Please submit via email to immersionacademy@sans.org no later than July 8, 2016. Make sure to state 'NTT Security' in the subject line.

  • Step 3 - Complete the skills and aptitude test.

  • Step 4 - Admissions Committee Review
    Application Packages will be reviewed by SANS CyberTalent Immersion Academy Admissions Committee and NTT Security, however, NTT Security makes the final decision regarding enrollment.

    • All information and materials furnished may be verified.
    • Applicant may be scheduled for a pre-qualification interview.
    • Selected candidates will be invited to an interview with NTT Security by telephone.

  • Step 5 - NTT Security perform a final review of the candidates and notifies candidates of their decision.

Hampton Roads VetSuccess Academy
  • Location: Hampton Roads, VA
  • Admissions: All interested applicants meeting the eligibility requirements must request the CTE assessment no later than Friday, March 17, 2017. Please email: immersionacademy@sans.org to request the online CTE assessment.
  • Class Begins: April 24, 2017
  • Graduation: August 2017 Curriculum
    1. SEC401: SANS Security Essentials Bootcamp Style
    2. SEC504: Hacker Tools, Techniques, Exploits and Incident Handling
    3. Third Elective chosen from:

    OnDemand class and associated GIAC certification to be completed by August 6, 2017

    All applicants must also meet the following requirements:

    • Transitioning service members not more than six months away from separation.
    • Veterans who have not been out of the service for more than ten years and are not currently working in the information security field or have prior work experience from the information security field outside of their military service.
    • Active duty or transitioning military spouses
    • Preferred degrees and experience for applicants (you only need one of the three below):
      • Hold a bachelor's degree and have at least 1 year of work experience in information technology, information security, or audit, or
      • Hold an associate's degree and have at least 3 years of work experience in information technology, information security, or audit.
      • Those without a college degree must hold at least 3-5 years of work experience in information technology, information security, or audit.

    Agree to program requirements and restrictions described in the Academy/Participant MOU.

    If you meet the requirements, please follow the steps below to apply for admission.

    Step 1 - Request the online CTE assessment to begin the application process via immersionacademy@sans.org. Applicants MUST specify which academy they are applying to in the subject line and meet the eligibility requirements.

    Step 2 - Applicants will receive instructions via email on how to access the online skills and aptitude test. Based on the results from the skills and aptitude test, applicants may be invited to submit a formal application. The test includes 50 questions covering domains such as information security aptitude, operating systems security, internet security technologies to network concepts and other domains. Applicants have one attempt for the test. NO retakes are granted.

    Step 3 - Based on the test score, applicants may be invited to submit an application, which will include:

    1. A resume
    2. An application form
    3. An MOU
    4. Copies of transcripts (Unofficial transcript are acceptable but copies of official transcripts may be requested at a later date)

    Step 4 - Please submit via email to immersionacademy@sans.org or designated SANS CyberTalent POC before the application deadline. For the application deadline, visit the 'Programs' section: https://www.sans.org/cybertalent/immersion-academy/programs

    Step 5 - Application Packages will be reviewed by SANS CyberTalent Immersion Academy Admissions Committee.

    • All information and materials furnished may be verified.
    • Applicant may be scheduled for a pre-qualification interview.

    Step 6 - Selected candidates will be invited to an interview with the Admissions Committee by telephone. Invitations to interview with the Admissions Committee does not guarantee admission into the program.

    Step 7 - Following the interview, and if the Admissions Committee approves your application, you will receive a formal "Offer of Admission" no later than April 1, 2017.

    Step 8 - Applicants accepted into the program commits to the program scheduled, its targeted dates for course completion as outlined on the website under the program section, and the verbiage in the MOU.


    Women's Immersion Academy

    OnDemand class and associated GIAC certification to be completed by Dec 3, 2017 Assess Your Qualifications and Required Credentials for Admissions

    All applicants must also meet the following requirements:

    • Senior in college; preferably pursuing a degree in a Computer/IT-related field or technical STEM discipline.
    • College graduate and career changers currently not working in the information security field or with prior work experience from the information security field.
    • Must be a U.S. citizens or a permanent legal resident (Green card holder) currently residing in the U.S.
    • Graduates currently pursuing or having achieved a Master's or PhD in information security are not eligible to apply.
    • Agree to program requirements and restrictions described in the Academy/Participant MOU.
