SANS Prague 2019 to Help Cyber Security Professionals in Czech Republic Keep on Top of Growing Threats

  • Prague, Czech Republic
  • 18 July 2019

SANS Institute, the global leader in cyber security training and certifications, is hosting one of its world-renowned cyber security training events in Prague during the week of 12th – 17th August 2019. The Czech Republic is not immune to high profile cyber security issues, such as nation state hacking - hacking of the Foreign Office was widely reported at the end of 2018 - and security concerns with Huawei earlier this year. At SANS Prague August 2019, cyber security practitioners from all across the Czech Republic and further afield, will have the opportunity to attend one of eight, week-long SANS training courses to develop and maintain vital cyber security skills.

In an arena where continued professional development is critical to stay one step ahead of the cyber criminals, SANS’ technical courses will provide cyber security professionals in the Czech Republic with the hands-on skills needed to protect the country's national infrastructure and citizens' data privacy. The SANS promise is that students will be able to use the new skills they have learned as soon as they return to work.

SANS Prague August 2019 will deliver the most in-depth, classroom-based immersion training available in cyber security, including multiple hands-on labs and workshops. Delegates can also attend bonus ‘SANS @ Night’ Talks, delivered by a global leading SANS instructor. Qualifying students will have the opportunity to sit for a GIAC Certification, the highest and most rigorous assurance of cyber security knowledge and skills available to industry, government, and military clients across the world.

Teaching critical vulnerability finding skills

One of SANS’ most popular SANS courses, – SEC504: Hacker Tools, Techniques, Exploits and Incident Handling, is being taught by SANS instructor Chris Dale. SEC504 teaches the skills needed to find security vulnerabilities and discover intrusions, delivering on the SANS mission of enabling cutting edge information security knowledge, and protecting people and assets. The course teaches proven methods of responding to computer incidents, together with an in-depth explanation of how attackers infiltrate systems. Students will leave this course prepared with the skills to detect and respond to cyber threats. Additionally, legal issues associated with responding to computer attacks will be evaluated, so that businesses have a better knowledge on how to deal with employee monitoring, working with law enforcement, and handling evidence.

“One of the biggest factors in reducing the harm caused by a cyber attack is time; the faster I can detect and respond to something, the better off I’m going to be,” says SANS instructor Chris Dale. He continues, “If I understand what the bad guys are going to do, then I can respond more effectively, and that’s what I love about teaching SEC504. It’s very rewarding to be able to take cyber security professionals who may be more defensively minded and introduce them to the offensive aspects of our trade, so they can become even more effective at protecting their organisation.”

Other courses running during the week are:

SEC487: Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) Gathering and Analysis with Michael Murr

SEC505: Securing Windows and PowerShell Automation with Jason Fossen

SEC511: Continuous Monitoring and Security Operations with Maxim Deweerdt

SEC542: Web App Penetration Testing and Ethical Hacking Bojan Zdrnja

SEC573: Automating Information Security with Python with Jonathan Thyer

ICS410: ICS/SCADA Security Essentials  with Stephen Mathezer
