SANS Institute, the global leader in information security training, today announced the addition of a new security training course ICS456: Essentials for NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP). This first run course will debut at the Industrial Control System (ICS) Security and Training Event taking place in Houston, Texas July 25 - 30. A second beta run of the course, Beta 2 Cincinnati - ICS456, will be offered in Covington, KY May 16 - 20.

"The ICS456 course is ideal for anyone involved in building, supporting or overseeing a CIP compliance program. This course offers unique insight into the complexities of the requirements of NERC CIP version 5 and 6 standards including potential pitfall areas. Course content will put the need for the requirements in context and provide practical implementation strategies to meet both cyber security and compliance objectives," said Ted Gutierrez, SANS Product Manager and co-author of the ICS456 course.

The SANS ICS456: Essentials for NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection course was developed by SANS ICS team members with extensive electric industry experience including former Registered Entity Primary Contacts, a former NERC officer, and a Co-Chair of the NERC CIP Interpretation Drafting Team. Together the authors bring real-world, practitioner experience gained from developing and maintaining NERC CIP and NERC 693 compliance programs and actively participating in the standards development process.
