Veterans Day Capture the Flag & Orientation Webinar

This webinar will cover key details about the Veterans Day BootUp Capture the Flag (CTF) and include time for Q&A. You will hear what to expect from the challenge and learn about the platforms used during the event. Bring any technical or non-technical questions you want addressed before the CTF begins the next morning. By registering for this webinar, you will receive a prompt in your SANS account dashboard to register separately for the Veterans Day BootUp CTF on the Ranges.io platform. 

Veterans Day 

In honor of Veterans Day, observed in the United States to honor all who have served in the armed forces, SANS is hosting the Veterans Day BootUp Capture the Flag. While the observance itself is US based, this event is open to participants everywhere, and everyone is welcome to join in the challenge. 

This orientation webinar will walk you through what to expect from the BootUp CTF, the platform you will be using, and time for Q&A before the event kicks off. 

BootUp CTF Details 

• The BootUp CTF runs for 72 hours. 
• Starting Wednesday, November 11, 2026 at 9:00 AM ET. 
• Ending Saturday, November 14, 2026 at 9:00 AM ET. 

This CTF is built with beginner and intermediate talent in mind, so if you're early in your cybersecurity journey, this is the challenge to jump into. It's free to play and open to everyone, and the top three participants, ranked by hit rate, will each win a subscription to SANS Skills Quest. 

Prizes 

The top three competitors will each win a subscription to SANS Skills Quest. 

Placement is determined by hit rate, the fewest total attempts across all completed challenges. 

If more than three competitors are tied on hit rate, the tiebreaker goes to whoever completed their challenges the fastest among that tied group. 

Eligibility 

Anyone who has previously won a SANS BootUp CTF is not eligible to win a prize in this event. Past winners are still welcome, and encouraged, to participate in the challenge itself.
