About Silvano Sogus

Silvano Sogus is the founder of ShardSec, a specialized cybersecurity practice focused on strategic advisory, security architecture, assurance, and leadership development, and he is an Associate Instructor for SANS teaching LDR519: Cybersecurity Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC). With more than 25 years in cybersecurity and technology leadership, he brings a blend of technical depth, commercial insight, and clear communication suited to both operational and executive audiences.

Before founding ShardSec, Silvano served on the Senior Leadership Team at Smart DCC, leading the Security Architecture and Assurance capability for the telecommunications infrastructure supporting the UK’s smart meter ecosystem. He contributed to security strategy and roadmap development, worked closely with ExCo and senior leadership, and represented DCC on several industry and regulatory committees.

Earlier, Silvano was a senior member of the Digital Trust and CyberSecurity division at PA Consulting, delivering cyber and information security consulting across enterprise environments, with a focus on cyber risk advisory for C-level leaders, enterprise security architecture, cloud security, risk assessment, and security transformation programs.

Silvano holds a Master of Engineering in Electronics from the Politecnico di Torino and is a Chartered Cyber Security Professional, a Fellow of CIISec, a Professional Engineer, a member of the GIAC Advisory Board, and certified in GIAC Security Leadership (GSLC) and the Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge (CCSK).

He brings this breadth of experience into the classroom, helping students turn complex security challenges into clear, actionable strategies.
