About Candice Smart

Candice Smart is a seasoned cybersecurity executive with over a decade of experience driving strategic transformation and operational excellence in the financial services sector. As Chief Information Security Officer at Cooperative Business Services, LLC, she oversees the organization’s enterprise-wide cybersecurity vision and leads cross-functional teams to develop and execute robust security, governance, and risk management frameworks aligned with NIST CSF, NCUA requirements, and leading industry standards.

Leveraging more than a decade of leadership experience, Candice has steered large-scale initiatives—from spearheading SOC II readiness and building a robust security culture and training program, to pioneering business impact analysis and disaster recovery strategies that enhance organizational resilience. Her expertise spans orchestrating effective vendor partnerships and chairing board-level committees focused on risk, compliance, and security innovation. Candice has spoken at major industry events, including KnowBe4-CON and the CDO Magazine Cybersecurity Summit, and has helped lead workshops on IT security controls and policy development.

Candice holds a Master’s in Cybersecurity Management as well as multiple industry certifications, including CISM, SSAP, SACP, CompTIA Security+, and CompTIA CySA+, and is an active member of ISACA and the Order of the Sword & Shield National Honor Society (Omicron Sigma Sigma). Her executive track record reflects a commitment to empowering teams, elevating security maturity, and shaping the future of digital trust and risk governance.
