In 2022, SANS Institute, a leading global cyber security training and certifications organisation, partnered with Tamkeen to deliver the Cyber Reskilling Program in Bahrain.
The main objective was to identify, educate, and rapidly reskill individuals in just eight weeks, with comprehensive theoretical and practical training from some of the world's leading industry cyber security experts, preparing them to undertake cyber security employment. The program sought to enhance outcomes for Bahraini individuals and contribute to the labour market by filling prevalent skills gaps with well-prepared and skilled individuals.
This case study highlights Mohammad Tazeem Naz experience.
Prior to the cyber reskilling program, Mohammad had completed his Master's degree, focusing on product design but also covered some aspects of cyber security. Employed as a software engineer, Mohammad noticed that cyber security was often an after-thought and needed to be considered from the beginning of the design of any new products or software. He began self-study in cyber security and wanted to move into the cyber security workforce but found that his lack of understanding and experience on apply what he had learned to real world problems was a barrier.
Mohammad completed the Cyber Reskilling Program, achieving the GFACT, GSEC, and GCIH certifications in just eight weeks, scoring 99% and 98% in the GSEC and GCIH respectively.
As a result of the training and certifications provided, and opportunities facilitated by SANS for Mohammad to meet with potential employers, he was able to secure a position as a Senior Information Security Analyst at Advantari.
Ahmed Albalooshi, CEO at Advantari commented "Our alliance with SANS and Tamkeen has been invaluable. Not only have we onboarded top-tier Bahraini cyber security talent, but we're thrilled to share our journey and insights, further propelling this initiative."
Following his success in the program and in his new role, Mohammad was able to return to the program in an employer capacity, looking for opportunities to recruit graduates just like him who could be successful in cyber security roles.
