Network security is a complicated subject, historically only tackled by well-trained and experienced experts. However, as more and more people become 'wired' an increasing number of people need to understand the basics of security in a networked world. Vulnerability assessment tools are coming into widespread use but the methods that they use are not well understood. Networking security tools have been in existence for several years and have been growing in their scope and capability. The quality of an Operating System will be judged by how it is able to handle these tools. The Windows .NET Server operating system will provide many important new security features and improve on the ones included in the original Windows 2000 Server. According to Ed Parry news editor for SearchWin2000 Windows .NET Server represents the near future -- it's slated for release before the end of the year. You may wonder if you can't live without it. Or you may wonder if you need it at all. I will hopefully give you some insight into this decision.
