Cybersecurity innovation is accelerating. AI agents are changing how defenders operate—and how attackers work. Identity is expanding beyond humans to workloads, services, APIs, and autonomous agents. Security teams are rethinking how they discover exposures, protect data, secure software, investigate threats, and automate response. At the same time, a new generation of cybersecurity companies is challenging established approaches with technologies built specifically for these emerging problems.
The SANS 2027 Cyber Innovations Showcase will examine the technologies, startups, and emerging security categories that could define the next several years of cybersecurity. Rather than focusing on incremental product improvements, the showcase will explore genuinely new approaches to difficult security problems—from agentic AI and AI security to identity, data security, exposure management, application security, cloud security, autonomous SOC operations, and other emerging areas. We’ll explore what is genuinely innovative, which problems these technologies solve, where they fit alongside existing security investments, and what practitioners should be watching next. Attendees will hear from emerging technology providers while gaining independent perspective on where the cybersecurity market is heading—and which innovations have the potential to materially change how security teams operate.

Cybersecurity leader Dave Shackleford combines decades of enterprise defense, cloud security, and hands-on consulting experience to help students master real-world security operations and modern threat defense.
