About Alex Pinto

Alex Pinto is a Director of Threat Intelligence at Verizon Business. He has been responsible for publishing the Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report since the 2020 edition, among a myriad of other research, product management and engineering roles in the company.

Prior to his work at Verizon, Alex was a successful startup founder at two different companies: Niddel, a machine-learning-based network detection company acquired by Verizon in 2018 and Cipher Security, one of the first cybersecurity consulting firms in Brazil, where he is originally from.

He has 25 years of experience in cybersecurity, and 12 of those were dedicated to the intersection between cybersecurity, machine learning, and data science. He has been a public speaker at several conferences, including Black Hat, RSA Conference and DEF CON, and he has collected many of those fancy certifications as well. His hobbies include creating corny footnote jokes for the DBIR, and collecting and playing video games.
