Enhancing Digital Capabilities at the Netherlands Ministry of Defence

The Netherlands Ministry of Defence (MOD) has partnered with the SANS Institute to launch the Netherlands Defence Cyber Academy, an intensive programme designed to enhance the MOD's digital defence capabilities. This initiative aims to equip MOD personnel with advanced cybersecurity skills through specialised training courses, ensuring they are prepared to counter evolving cyber threats.

Programme Structure

The Netherlands Defence Cyber Academy offers a structured learning path comprising two primary development tracks:

Cyber Advisor Development Track

  • Courses Included:
    • SEC275: Foundations: Computers, Technology, & Security
    • SEC401: Security Essentials - Network, Endpoint, and Cloud
    • SEC504: Hacker Tools, Techniques, and Incident Handling
  • Focus: This track provides participants with foundational cybersecurity knowledge, covering essential topics such as network security, endpoint protection, and incident handling.

Cyber Technical Development Track

  • Courses Included:
    • SEC450: Blue Team Fundamentals: Security Operations and Analysis
    • FOR508: Advanced Incident Response, Threat Hunting, and Digital Forensics
  • Focus: Designed for individuals demonstrating strong cybersecurity aptitude, this track delves into advanced topics like security operations, threat hunting, and digital forensics.

Training Approach

Participants undergo in-person, instructor-led training sessions tailored exclusively for the MOD. The programme emphasises hands-on learning, real-world simulations, and interactive exercises to reinforce theoretical knowledge.
