2024 State of Security Automation Survey

Automation plays a vital role in improving capacity, efficiency, and performance in the SOC. Security teams spend far too much time “in the weeds,” unable to focus on solving the problems that matter.

Security orchestration, automation, and response (SOAR) tools have the potential to streamline analysis, reduce response times, and improve quality. However, SOC teams often struggle to realize the full potential of this kind of automation even as SOAR continues to evolve and incorporate more advanced features.

SANS has conducted a survey to understand what drives automation in security teams, the role of automation in facilitating collaboration, and the ongoing challenges of automating security operations.

In this two hour webcast, Certified SANS Instructor Mark Orlando and Jane Goh, Product Marketing Principal Lead from Palo Alto Networks’ Cortex division will discuss the results of this survey, which covers how SOC teams identify, prioritize, and assess the efficiency of SOAR use cases. They will also explore the ways advanced automation capabilities such as artificial intelligence might fill the gaps left by traditional SOAR, and potential barriers that remain for security teams already overworked and understaffed.

Also, Certified SANS Instructor Matt Bromiley will provide his review of Palo Alto’s Cortex XSOAR platform. Matt spent some time getting to know how Cortex XSOAR can help teams identify and achieve efficiency in their security operations. He will review how XOSAR helps eliminate unnecessary manual tasks, automatically enrich data with threat intelligence, and automate response actions to bring down MTTR times.
