David Cowan

David is an experienced senior cybersecurity professional and a regular public speaker on topics such as real major cyber incident experiences and key lessons for organisations to use in preparing their own cyber resilience to such events. David has worked at a senior level as CIO and CISO in a range of public and private organisations across a range of large organisations in different industry sectors. He currently works for the UK Civil Nuclear Sector as Cyber Facilitator based at the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA).

David has worked in technology and cybersecurity across both IT and OT/ICS settings. His experience spans from manufacturing production lines, distribution, medical technology, and aircraft systems, through to secure communications systems and large-scale technology solution delivery. David is also an experienced solutions architect and has been involved in some major technology enabled solutions in various organisations. He is recognised as someone who can bring a strong technical knowledge and ability to innovate to senior businesspeople and speak in terms which successfully bridge the technology – business communication challenge.

David is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Information Security (FCIIS) and Member of the BCS (MBCS). David is passionate about lifelong learning and encouraging professional certifications in IT/ICS and cyber. He currently actively holds the recognised certifications – CISSP, IISAP, IISMP, ISSEP, CCSP, CGEIT, CISM, CDPSE, CNSsP(Cyber), ISO-27001 Lead and C-CISO.
