The threat landscape is constantly changing. Adversaries are human too, and they have events like holidays, global pandemics, or other events that might change their daily activities. In this webcast, Saher Naumaan will cover key measures you can use to examine trends in adversary activity. She will share various trends and methodology her team has observed in adversaries based on tracking characteristics like malware and infrastructure. Well discuss how these tracking methods can be useful to identify trends as well as limitations to watch out for as you try to derive information about adversaries to improve your teams security.

Speaker Bios

Katie Nickels

Katie is a SANS instructor for FOR578: Cyber Threat Intelligence and†a Principal Intelligence Analyst for Red Canary.†She has worked on cyber threat intelligence (CTI), network defense, and incident response for nearly a decade for the DoD, MITRE, Raytheon, and ManTech.† Katie hails from a liberal arts background with degrees from Smith College and Georgetown University, embracing the power of applying liberal arts prowess to cybersecurity. With more than a dozen publications to her name, Katie has shared her expertise with presentations at Black Hat, multiple SANS Summits, Sp4rkcon, and many other events. Katie has also served as a co-chair of the SANS CTI Summit and FIRST CTI Symposium. She was the 2018 recipient of the President's Award from the Women's Society of Cyberjutsu and serves as the Program Manager for the Cyberjutsu Girls Academy, which seeks to inspire young women to learn more about STEM. Saher Naumaan

Saher Naumaan is a Senior Threat Intelligence Analyst at BAE Systems Applied Intelligence. She currently researches state-sponsored cyber espionage with a focus on threat groups and activity in the Middle East. Saher specialises in analysis covering the intersection of geopolitics and cyber operations, and regularly speaks at public and private conferences around the world, including SAS, Virus Bulletin, FIRST, and BSides. She is also the creator and organizer of RESET (2018 and 2019), the first cybersecurity conference in Europe with an all female line-up. Prior to working at Applied Intelligence, Saher graduated from Kingís College London with a Masterís in Intelligence and Security, where she received the Barrie Paskins Award for Best MA dissertation in War Studies.
