Overview

Join us on Wednesday, August 5th, for the SANS Security Awareness Virtual Forum, which is free to the community. This virtual event will be hosted from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm EST and includes multiple talks, an online scavenger hunt, video wars, and free resources. This will serve as an excellent primer for the annual two-day Security Awareness Summit to be held December 3-4 in Austin, TX and Live Online.

SANS Security Awareness strives to provide the appropriate knowledge and resources to help you create, expand, and mature your awareness program and establish a strong security culture. During the half-day forum, youll gain insight on the latest proven advances and approaches in securing the human element. You will hear from security experts and experienced security awareness professionals ready to share practical recommendations that you can apply right away within your organization.

Speaker Bios

Lance Spitzner

Lance Spitzner has over 20 years of security experience in cyber threat research, awareness and training. He invented the concept of honeynets, founded the Honeynet Project and published three security books. Lance has worked and consulted in over 25 countries and helped over 350 organizations plan, maintain and measure their security awareness programs. In addition, Lance is a member of the Board of Directors for the National Cyber Security Alliance, frequent presenter, serial tweeter (@lspitzner) and works on numerous community security projects. Before working in information security, Mr. Spitzner served as an armor officer in the Army's Rapid Deployment Force and earned his MBA from the University of Illinois.


Katie Nickels

Katie is a SANS instructor for FOR578: Cyber Threat Intelligence and a Principal Intelligence Analyst for Red Canary. She has worked on cyber threat intelligence (CTI), network defense, and incident response for nearly a decade for the DoD, MITRE, Raytheon, and ManTech.  Katie hails from a liberal arts background with degrees from Smith College and Georgetown University, embracing the power of applying liberal arts prowess to cybersecurity. With more than a dozen publications to her name, Katie has shared her expertise with presentations at Black Hat, multiple SANS Summits, Sp4rkcon, and many other events. Katie has also served as a co-chair of the SANS CTI Summit and FIRST CTI Symposium. She was the 2018 recipient of the President's Award from the Women's Society of Cyberjutsu and serves as the Program Manager for the Cyberjutsu Girls Academy, which seeks to inspire young women to learn more about STEM.
