Overview

Since e-mail is the most common attack vector used by attackers, knowledge of effective phishing techniques is indispensable for penetration testers, red teamers and security professionals in general as well.

In this presentation we will go over the most effective phishing techniques used by attackers today and the methods to defeat them. We will also take a look at couple of techniques and tricks not yet used in the wild, which will allow us to get our messages past anti-phishing and anti-malware scans of e-mail security gateways.

Speaker Bio

Jan Kopřiva

Jan Kopřiva is the team lead of a CSIRT team at ALEF NULA. Before 

joining ALEF, Jan worked in both academia and the commercial sector and 

was involved with projects focused on implementation and testing of 

applications, proprietary hardware development and information security. 

His main focus lies in the „purple“ area between incident response, 

malware analysis, vulnerability research and red teaming. He is an 

author of numerous research papers and articles focused on different 

aspects of cyber security and he regularly speaks at security 

conferences of all sizes. He is also one of the Incident Handlers in the 

renowned SANS Internet Storm Center.
