Speaker Bios

Heather Mahalik

Heather Mahalik is a SANS senior instructor and course lead for FOR585: Smartphone Forensic Analysis In-Depth. As the senior director of digital intelligence at Cellebrite, Heather focuses on forensic research and making the community smarter on all aspects of digital intelligence. Her background in digital forensics and e-discovery covers smartphone, mobile device, Mac and Windows forensics, including acquisition, analysis, advanced exploitation, vulnerability discovery, malware analysis, application reverse-engineering and manual decoding. Prior to joining Cellebrite, Heather focused on mobile device forensics in support of the federal government and served as a technical lead performing forensic examinations for high-profile cases. Heather maintains www.smarterforensics.com, where she blogs and shares presentations.


John Bair

Senior Consultant for an eDiscovery firm in Seattle where he conducts forensic services and expert testimony. Prior to that, John spent 30 years in law enforcement, where his last 13 years were devoted to mobile forensic investigations related to violent crimes.


Alexis Brignoni

FBI Special Agent. Certified Computer Analysis Response Team examiner. Open-source digital forensics tool developer.


Mattia Epifani

Today, Mattia is CEO of Reality Net System Solutions, an Italian infosec and digital forensics consulting company, where he works as a digital forensics analyst and expert for judges, prosecutors, lawyers, and private companies, at times serving as an expert court witness.

Mattia also brings his passion and expertise to the classroom as an instructor for SANS FOR500: Windows Forensic Analysis and FOR585: Smartphone Forensic Analysis In-Depth, a topic he's particularly passionate about. "I spend my days trying to acquire and analyze digital devices, smartphones in particular," he says. An expert with a vast knowledge of tools and techniques for forensic investigation, Mattia always tries to find a way to achieve his goal even when no tools exist. "I do forensics on a daily basis testing, developing new methods, and going deeper and deeper, and I love teaching by providing real cases and scenarios to my students," he says.

First introduced to SANS as a student, Mattia attended the 2010 DFIR Summit then proceeded to take four years of training because he loved the people and content at SANS so much. From there, he became an instructor.


Jessica Hyde

Jessica Hyde is an experienced forensic examiner in both the commercial and government sectors. Jessica has 14 years technical experience and holds an MS in Computer Forensics from George Mason University. She is currently the Director of Forensics for Magnet Forensics and an Adjunct Professor at George Mason University where she teaches Mobile Forensics. Previously, Jessica was the Senior Mobile Exploitation Analyst for Basis Technology where she led a team in the exploitation of mobile devices. Prior to that, she performed computer crime investigations for Ernst and Young and worked as a senior electrical engineer performing electronic data recovery on mobile devices for American Systems. Jessica is also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.


Paul Lorentz

Technical Account Expert / Sr Solutions Engineer - Cellebrite. Former Law Enforcement. DFIR started off as a hobby then turned into a career path.


Christophe Poirier

Cybersecurity expert in the energy sector, Sworn Forensic Examiner since 2017.


Lee Reiber

Mr. Reiber contributes thought leadership, direction, and consultation to recognized digital forensic and investigation associations around the world. During his 15 years in the digital forensic space, Lee Reiber has authored over 50 articles on mobile device forensics, authored Mobile Forensics Investigations: A Guide to Evidence Collection, Analysis, and Presentation, is featured in national and international magazines and contributes as an invited speaker on the topics of digital forensics and cybersecurity.


Mike Williamson

Technical Forensic Consultant, Magnet Forensics. Former law enforcement. Specializes in digital forensics, software development, and reverse engineering.


Ian Whiffin

Senior Digital Intelligence Expert, Cellebrite. Former Law Enforcement. Specializing in mobile Forensics. DF is my career and hobby.
