According to industry analysts, the virtualization tipping point has been passed where more server workloads are being deployed on virtualized platforms than on traditional physical servers. This has many benefits for increasing business flexibility and reducing IT operations costs, but presents challenges to traditional approaches to information security. In particular, agent-based approaches to security have proven to be inefficient when applied to virtualized environments due to resource consumption and scalability issues.

To address this problem, VMware has built an infrastructure that allows third party security vendors to leverage the hypervisor for more efficient malware protection.

Join John Pescatore, SANS Director of Emerging Security Trends, Jeremiah Cornelius, Security Architect at VMware and Maxim Weinstein, Senior Product Specialist at Sophos for a SANS 'Ask the Experts ' webinar that will provide information and guidance on new approaches to detecting and blocking advanced malware in virtualized environments.
