Overview

Cyberattacks are happening everyday to organizations of all sizes. The demand for cybersecurity skills continues to grow every year as the threat increasingly intensifies. Information Technology professionals are often a first line of defence against cyber attacks on an organization-- but how prepared is your IT team to face these threats?

During this webcast moderator Randy Purse, Senior Cybersecurity Advisor at the Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst, is joined by SANS instructors Bryan Simon and Kevin Ripa to break down how any IT career can be bolstered with cybersecurity training.

The panel will also discuss the opportunities for Canadian IT professionals who are interested in building on their experiences to become a cybersecurity specialist. Stick around until the end to ask your questions in our Q & A session.

Speaker Bios

Kevin Ripa

Kevin serves as president of The Grayson Group of Companies, which consists of Computer Evidence Recovery, Pro Data Recovery Inc., and J.S. Kramer & Associates, Inc. He provides investigative services to various levels of law enforcement, Fortune 500 companies, and the legal community. He is past president of the Alberta Association of Private Investigators and a former member of the Canadian Department of National Defence, where he served in both foreign and domestic postings. Kevin is a 25-year digital investigation veteran with hundreds of speaking and training engagements around the world. Today he is a SANS instructor for SEC301: Intro to Information SecuritySEC401: Security Essentials Bootcamp Style, and FOR500: Windows Forensic Analysis.


Bryan Simon

Bryan Simon is a SANS Principal Instructor and lead author of SEC401: Security Essentials Bootcamp Style, as well as an internationally recognized expert in cybersecurity since 1991. He’s currently the president and CEO of Xploit Security Inc, a company that provides expert advice, guidance, and actionable intelligence to all levels of the public and private sectors. Over the course of his career, Bryan has held various technical and managerial positions in the education, environmental, accounting, and financial services sectors. He speaks on a regular basis at international conferences and with the press on matters of cybersecurity. Bryan has provided instruction to individuals from organizations such as the FBI, NATO, and the UN in matters of cybersecurity, on three continents.


Randy Purse

Randy Purse is a Senior Cybersecurity Advisor for the Catalyst specializing in cybersecurity training, education and workforce development. After three decades of work in the military and in national security roles, Randy brought his expertise and enthusiasm to the non-profit sector. Prior to assuming his role with the Catalyst, Randy was the Vice President of Future Workforce Development at TECHNATION where he led the AI and Cybersecurity Skills Initiative and the Municipal Cybersecurity Best Practices initiative in addition to other tech workforce development efforts. He is a Certified Training Development Professional. His Master of Education is in Information Technology and his PhD is in Education with research focused on workplace and collective learning in technical contexts. He also continues to do research and writing on cybersecurity, learning, and workforce development issues.
