Overview

This webcast digs more deeply into the results of the SANS 2019 SOC Survey. A panel moderated by SANS Director of Emerging Technologies John Pescatore and comprised of survey author Chris Crowley and representatives from ExtraHop, Siemplify and ThreatConnect will touch on key themes developed through analyzing the results of the survey.

Key areas of discussion include:

  • Best practices of those organizations that are able to maintain accurate and up-to-date asset inventories on-premises and in the cloud
  • Best practices of SOC managers who have successfully incorporated SOAR technologies and metrics that show measurable business benefit
  • Areas of SOC operations impacted by staffing concerns and definitions of those concerns as a quantity or skills problem

Speaker Bios

Christopher Crowley

Christopher Crowley, a senior SANS instructor and course author for SANS courses in Managing Security Operations and Incident Response Team Management, holds multiple certifications. He received the SANS 2009 Local Mentor of the Year award for excellence in providing mentor classes to his local community. Chris is a consultant based in Washington, D.C., who has more than 15 years of experience in managing and securing networks. His areas of expertise include network and mobile penetration testing, mobile device deployments, security operations, incident response and forensic analysis.


Jody Caldwell

Jody Caldwell is the director of customer success for ThreatConnect. Previously, he spent time in both the Department of Defense and the intelligence community working with Network Security Operations Centers (NSOC) and Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTS) in a variety of positions that include cyber threat analysis and leading cyber threat hunt teams. Jody's passionate about working with customers to strengthen security programs and leverage cyber threat intelligence to enhance their awareness while mitigating risks. Jody lives in Charleston, SC, and enjoys boating and golfing.


Jeff Costlow

As a security technologist and leader for over 20 years, Jeff Costlow's deep experience securing information and technology assets as well as years of successful engineering leadership have resulted in secure product deployments to thousands of customers. As the deputy CISO at ExtraHop Networks, Jeff leads the ExtraHop team toward groundbreaking security and privacy services in ExtraHop's best-of-breed traffic analysis tool.


Steve Salinas

Steve Salinas has specialized in delivering technology solutions designed to solve complex security problems for more than twelve years. His experience includes holding product management, product marketing, and solution engineering positions with leading security vendors including Guidance Software (now OpenText), Alert Logic and Cylance. He is a frequent presenter at industry conferences and regularly published blogs aimed at providing both business and technical insights to the security community. Currently, Steve is the director of product marketing at Siemplify.
