Overview

There is also a chronic shortage of competent people in the cyber security space. So just at the moment when companies most need to be expanding their security teams, they are experiencing a chronic talent shortage. Further complicating, a major problem emerging in the industry is NOISE around tech solutions. There are over 10,000 security related companies that have started in the last decade. Much of this tech is all sex, sizzle and no trousers not living up to their claims, and certainly nowhere near the silver bullet they claim to be. Secondly, even if you buy these often very expensive tech solutions, if you dont have the security talent to properly configure, maintain and respond to the data these appliances are generating or pushing off, then you are left in an even worse position one where you have spent a lot of money, but not actually improved your security posture.

In this webcast, well discover a simple decision matrix that can be used in security buying scenarios, that helps decision-makers at every level gain a foothold on the first opportunity to narrow the vendor field. In addition, well take a deep dive in to the topic of managed security services, to properly categorize types of services that can be relied upon from 3rd party vendors.

Speaker Bios

Dave Shackleford

Dave Shackleford, a SANS analyst, instructor, course author, GIAC technical director and member of the board of directors for the SANS Technology Institute, is the founder and principal consultant with Voodoo Security. He has consulted with hundreds of organizations in the areas of security, regulatory compliance, and network architecture and engineering. A VMware vExpert, Dave has extensive experience designing and configuring secure virtualized infrastructures. He previously worked as chief security officer for Configuresoft and CTO for the Center for Internet Security. Dave currently helps lead the Atlanta chapter of the Cloud Security Alliance.


Ron Schlecht, Jr.

Ron Schlecht, Jr. is the Founder and Managing Partner of BTB Security, a cyber security focused services firm that specializes in proactively detecting threats as well as defending against and defeating cyber security adversaries. He uses his background in law enforcement, information security, and forensics to help organizations shield their assets, customers, and employees against security breaches.

Ron believes in going beyond the basics to develop and deliver unique services that protect and bring true business value to BTB’s diverse customer base. A frequent speaker at industry events, Ron constantly studies IT trends and developments to determine how every ‘next big thing’ in IT will affect BTB and their customers.

Before devoting his work fulltime to BTB Security, Ron developed and lead professional service teams by architecting and driving security organizations as a CISO at firms such as Ernst & Young, Black Rock, and KPMG. He is a certified CISSP, CCE, and is affiliated with InfraGard Philadelphia and ISFCE.

Ron holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Science and Criminal Justice from Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania—where he continues to serve on the college’s IT Advisory Board.
