Speaker Bios

Don Murdoch

Don Murdoch is a SANS community instructor specializing in incident response and security operations. A solutions-oriented IT director and consultant, he has hands-on experience leading software/infrastructure/system development efforts for financial and healthcare systems, including requirements definition, executive-level strategy and communications, solution design, architecture, deployment, production and dissolution. Don is the author of two prominent blue team handbooks: The first focuses on incident response, while the second focuses on SOC, SIEM and threat hunting. He holds the SANS GSE, Cyber Guardian Blue Team and 20 other GIAC certifications, and he is also a certified TOGAF Enterprise Architect and SABSA Chartered Security Architect.


Barbara Filkins

Barbara Filkins, SANS Analyst Program Research Director, holds several SANS certifications, including the GSEC, GCIH, GCPM, GLEG and GICSP, the CISSP, and an MS in information security management from the SANS Technology Institute. She has done extensive work in system procurement, vendor selection and vendor negotiations as a systems engineering and infrastructure design consultant. Barbara focuses on issues related to automation—privacy, identity theft and exposure to fraud, plus the legal aspects of enforcing information security in today’s mobile and cloud environments, particularly in the health and human services industry, with clients ranging from federal agencies to municipalities and commercial businesses.


John Madray

John Madray is the customer success engineer manager at ThreatConnect. He hails from Charleston, SC, and has worked in the cybersecurity industry for the past 10 years in everything from security monitoring to host-based forensics. In his free-time, he enjoys traveling and flying drones.


Sean McNee

Sean McNee is the director of research & development at DomainTools. His work focuses on domain registration and DNS data analysis, machine learning, and visual analytics. He looks for ways to make the Internet a better place. Sean received his PhD from the University of Minnesota and was a winner of the 2010 ACM Software Systems Award.


Carson Sweet

Carson Sweet is cofounder and CEO for CloudPassage. Carson led the team that created Halo, the patented security platform that changes the way enterprises achieve infrastructure protection and compliance. Carsonís information security career spans three decades and includes a broad range of entrepreneurial, management and hands-on technology experience. Carson and his teams have created groundbreaking security solutions across a range of industries and public sectors, with a heavy focus on financial services, federal government and high-tech.
