Last week I had the amazing opportunity to be part of the RSA Keynote panel on protecting kids online. The goal of the panel was to raise awareness of the risks kids face online today, but also just as importantly what we can do about it. I've been actively presenting around the world for over 15 years now, yet this was one of the most emotional and fulfilling talks I have ever been a part of. The panelists included:
- Alicia Kozakiewicz: Alicia is a survivor of Internet luring, abduction, and captivity at age 13. You could have heard a pin drop in a room of over 3,000 people as she told her story. Her mission now is to ensure that no child has to go through what she did, you can learn more about her at www.aliciaproject.org.
- Michael Osborn: Michael is the Chief of the Violent Crimes Against Children Unit, FBI.
- Sharon W. Cooper: Sharon is a developmental and forensic pediatrician who specializes in children who have been victims of abuse. She gave a fascinating background on how children learn and mature.
- Sandra Toms: Sandra was the moderator and is Vice President and Curator of the RSA Conference.
If you have kids I highly recommend you watch video of the panel. You may also want to share this with other families and community members, there is a tremendous amount of good information in here combined with a very powerful story. - RSA Panel: Protecting Our Youth from the Wolves of Cyberspace
