SANS Institute, the global leader in information security training, today announced the SANS Austin Winter 2017 security training event taking place in Texas December 4 - 9. Hands-on immersion style training courses will cover a variety of security topics for professionals at every level. Attendees will learn actionable tips and techniques to prevent cyber attacks. Management-level courses are also available for those interested in advancing their career.

Included among the stellar line-up of instructors is Ted Demopoulos (@teddemop), SANS Principal Instructor and author of InfoSec Rock Star: How to Accelerate Your Career Because Geek Will Only Get You So Far. For seasoned security professionals looking to become security leaders, Demopoulos will teach the SANS MGT514: IT Security Strategic Planning, Policy, and Leadership course.

According to Demopoulos, "In most organizations, security has historically been reactive, and today we must be proactive. In fact we should take leadership and strategically plan our security and its evolution in our organization. MGT514 will prepare you to do this by teaching students how to build and manage cyber security programs with a focus towards meeting the needs of an organization. The new associated GIAC Strategic Planning, Policy, and Leadership (GSTRT) certification will demonstrate the holder possesses the skills to effectively lead their teams to accomplish business goals."

This course will help students prepare for the new corresponding GSTRT certification.

SANS Austin Winter 2017 will feature courses for those new to information security as well as highly seasoned professionals. Those new to security will benefit from the SEC401: Security Essentials Bootcamp Style course. More seasoned professionals can select from a variety of security, digital forensics and incident response, ICS security, and security management courses. Bonus evening discussions will round out the agenda.
