MEDIA ALERT: Malware Expert, Jake Williams, will Discuss Shadow Brokers -- Theories and Technical Implications -- During his Keynote Address at SANS Chicago

  • Bethesda, MD
  • August 19, 2016

In light of this week's Shadow Brokers' leak of NSA files, a keynote change will take place at SANS Chicago. Keynote speaker Jake Williams will offer theories as to how this leak happened and the technical implications. Williams will also share recommendations to prevent exploitation when targeted by nation state actors.

Who: Jake Williams (aka @MalwareJake), Founder of Rendition Security and a SANS Instructor and course author.

What: So you've been targeted by nation state hackers.... This keynote address will discuss the latest news surrounding the recent Shadow Brokers' lead of NSA files followed by a discussion on zero days, common sense policies, and some easy steps security professionals can take to minimize risk even when targeted by a nation state.

When: Monday, August 22 at 7:15 PM CT

Where: SANS Chicago 2016 Security Training Event. To register, please visit: www.sans.org/chicago-2016

Why: Last week a group known as Shadow Brokers released a cache of exploits and implants attributed to the Equation Group. Although the tools cache appears to be from 2013, it still contains many zero day vulnerabilities impacting several different vendors' firewalls (probably some of the same firewalls deployed today in your organization). Who released the cache of tools? Nobody knows, but Williams will talk about some leading theories during his keynote address.
