Cyber Security in 2023: keeping focus in a recession after the cyber war that never was.

Thursday 2nd February 2023

The Landmark, London, NW1 6JQ

This ‘Boardroom Lunch Session’ hosted by Professor Ciaran Martin will address how CISOs prioritise cyber security within organisations in a tough economic crisis after the cyber war against the West that never was in 2022. Budgets are squeezed and everyone was marched up to the top of the cyber hill in 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine. Look at ‘Shields Up’ for example in the US. It was absolutely right for the cyber security community to warn of potentially serious collateral from the conflict – the threat was obvious. But at least in terms of the average Western company, nothing has happened.

With that all in mind, is there a risk that as budgets tighten in the downturn, boards will ask “after all that fuss last year and nothing happened, how can we afford more of this?”

This exclusive and private session for our network members only, will look at cyber security in this context. So we will look at the real harm that is still happening. Data breaches. Ransomware. Other threat actors and enduring existing ones. Continuing vulnerabilities in technology. How do CISOs then retain the board focus in this environment?

For more information or to reserve your place at this event please do contact ciso-network@sans.org. Note, there are very limited places available so do book quickly to avoid any disappointment. As with all our events, Chatham House rules apply.
