Today's Mobility and Cloud Cybersecurity Mission

  • Loay Oweis, Federal Mobility Specialist
  • Tuesday, July 17th, 12:30pm - 1:15pm

The world today is evolving with burgeoning technology and business transformations. We can login to any user endpoint from a mobile device to a laptop, and have the same applications and content at our disposal to complete the daily tasks from anywhere. This is the experience we are growing accustomed to and are learning to expect to become ubiquitous from the workplace to the home place. Technology vendors are striving to standardize what once was innovation to become an expectation. This is also the experience that companies and government agencies set as their goal for their IT mission. While this is quickly becoming a reality, the challenge becomes the guarantee of performance and security required to make this truly functional. The success will garner the confidence of the end-users and supporting community and this confidence is the inspiration to business transformations of the modern era.

The true leaders in the IT world master these challenges as opportunities by accepting the changing dynamics of the modern computing era and adapt accordingly. They accept that data is everywhere and ensure to have end-to-end visibility. They understand that workflows and workloads are dynamic and they embody adaptive computing, storage, and connectivity accordingly. All the while they focus on performance and cost of ownership to make these goals attainable and feasible to provide and use.

These IT leaders also focus on maintaining a strong security posture to achieve their mission. They leverage mobile devices and cloud services with a security focused deployment and management. They utilize Unified Endpoint Management solutions with integrated Cloud Security capability to ensure only the secured devices and applications are able to access their sanctioned Cloud services.

They study mobile threat vectors to include the device, the network and the applications. They utilized Mobile Threat Defense solutions to protect against harmful attacks with machine learning and artificial intelligence to detect known and unknown attacks before they cause harm and mitigate them on the device in a disconnected state to eliminate any possibility of risk.

While this all may seem to be a hardship, there is ease and hope for this reality to become more and more prevalent. The maturity of the technology today and the vision of the executive IT leaders create a catalyst for evolution to continue at an unprecedented rate. Government agencies have additional challenges in the form of acquisition and are taking proactive measures to reinvent and extend this evolution to their needs and strive for this business transformation.

What once was innovation becomes standard best practices, and the standard is then re-examined leading to innovation, and the cycle continues.
