Creating a Baseline of Process Activity for Memory Forensics

  • Gordon Fraser - Master's Degree Candidate
  • Wednesday, June 17th, 8:15pm - 9:15pm

A component of memory forensics is the examination of running processes looking for anomalies. This assumes that the analyst can recognize what is expected so they can identify what does not belong. Knowledge of what is normal is valuable because it can be used as a filter so the analyst can quickly focus on the unusual. This presentation provides an approach for establishing a baseline that can be used to identify what is normal and discusses how this information can be used in memory analysis.

Speaker Bio: Gordon Fraser is a Security Architect for SRA International supporting an application development project at the US Department of Justice. He began his career as a developer, working first as a programmer, then a database and application designer. Eventually he transitioned into Enterprise Systems Management and then into security. Gordon is a candidate in the SANS Technology Institute (STI) Masters of Science Degree Program. He is also a candidate for the SANS Cyber Guardian certification. Gordon holds a number of GIAC certifications including the GFCA (Gold), GCIH, GWEB, GPEN, GSSP-JAVA, GSEC, and GWAPT. He also holds the CISSP and PMP certifications
