How to hack the election - infosec and DFIR issues in the election and recount
- Jake Williams
- Sunday, November 27th, 7:15pm - 9:15pm
Regardless of your political position, the upcoming voting recounts and e-voting audits are likely to spurn some feelings in almost every American. In this talk, we'll examine opportunities for US election tampering by foreign powers by hacking the very networks and machines used to tally the votes. We'll build a threat model of election systems to discover identify vectors where attackers might be most prone to attack the networks. We'll also discuss the artifacts of an intrusion that investigators might examine during the recount and/or audit. Finally, we'll suggest some best practices for blocking attack vectors identified in the threat modeling exercise. What we WON'T do is discuss politics (there's been enough of that already).
