Blockchain Rebooted
- G Mark Hardy
- Tuesday, June 4th, 7:30pm - 8:30pm
In 2017 everyone with a Bitcoin was going to be driving a Lambo. In 2018 everyone who held their Bitcoin was checking out skateboards. What does the future hold in store? Letās take a look.
The first blockchain apps were cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. Now, blockchain has been proposed as a solution to everything from supply chain management to recording overseas votes to tracking cargo on ships. With over one billion dollars in venture funds invested and several hundred patents filed, every security professional must know the impact on organizations in terms of risk, volatility, and competitiveness.
This talk will explain blockchain technology, how it can do much more than cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, and the basics of "smart contracts." We'll separate the hype from the fact, and look at the security implications of placing corporate information in an unalterable distributed ledger. Most importantly, we'll discuss how to identify business processes at your organization that can be improved or enabled by this technology (hint: if you just substitute blockchain for database, it's not a good fit).
