SANS Technology Institute Master's Presentation
- Setting Up a Database Security Logging and Monitoring Program
- Jim Horwath
- Tuesday, December 11th, 8:15pm - 8:55pm
Databases contain the most valuable data companies own ā customer, employee, financial and intellectual property to name a few categories. Protecting, logging, and monitoring database data should be a core activity of every business. Unfortunately many businesses fail to provide adequate security logging and monitoring for their databases. Using SQL Server as an example, this presentation will give techniques, strategies and processes to meet security, compliance and operational needs of an organization. The topic will use common database vulnerabilities as use cases, and apply compensating controls to remediate and reduce risk of the vulnerability. The compensating controls may be native to Windows or process improvements. The audience will have proven techniques to use the day they return to work in a SQL Server environment.
Jim Horwath is a security enthusiast who works for an Insurance company functioning as the team lead for Security Logging, Monitoring and Incident Management. Jim started taking SANS classes in 2003, and is not a member of the OnDemand Mentor Team, as well as a GSE holder. SANS has been critical to his professional development and success. Jim is a candidate in the Masterās Program of SANS Technology Institute.
