"The Short Life of an Internet Connected DVR: How the Internet of Things Turns Against Us‚

  • Johannes Ullrich
  • Tuesday, January 17th, 7:00pm - 8:00pm

One could call them the mosquitos of the internet: Small network connected devices that often go unnoticed but can carry devastating infections and take down large systems. Recently network connected security cameras have made headlines for taking down some of the largest sites on the internet. Flaws in DSL modems took down millions of internet users and caused headline-sized outages. But this is just the tip of the iceberg of the attacks we have been observing for the last couple of years. Similar devices have been used to attack corporate networks, steal data and relay connections to obfuscate the source of attacks. As part of this presentation you will learn what kind of attacks these devices have been exposed to over the last couple of years, what basic vulnerabilities are commonly found in these devices, and how to protect your network from these devices as well as from some of the attacks originating from these devices.
