Uncovering "Unknown Unknowns": Detecting Compromise Before it Becomes a Crisis

  • Jim Penrose, EVP of Cyber Intelligence
  • Wednesday, August 5th, 12:30pm - 1:15pm

Former NSA technical director Jim Penrose will lead a discussion regarding a new approach to threat detection, specifically by augmenting the existing security stack to provide intelligence to catch intruders before a crisis occurs. Jim will delve into what it takes to discover cyber threats in spite of a cyber security paradigm that has a stunning track record of failure. He will discuss/debate new methods to cut through the noise of a busy environment to quickly identify the "unknown unknowns" that lurk within your corporate and industrial networks. Jim will also be able to share personal experiences, provide his perspective on recent compromises and discuss a specific case study of a UK Energy company that is leveraging this new approach. You cannot shut threats out - the question is how to deal with different levels of threat, ensure that your most valuable information assets are protected, and the most difficult threats to identify are detected.
