Dear Colleagues and Friends,
SANSFIRE 2008 is back in our Nation's Capitol with more classes, night sessions, and events than ever before! Summer break is the perfect time to bring the whole family to Washington DC, where you can all enjoy more attractions per square foot than anywhere in the world!
SANSFIRE 2008 is back at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, which boasts some of the most amazing views and restaurants to be found in the city. This property just finished a complete renovation with new comfortable beds (called Revive) and flat screen TVs. As an extra treat, if you book under the special SANS rate, you will receive complimentary high-speed Internet with your room.
Washington DC is one of the worst cities for commuter traffic, so we highly recommend you stay in the host hotel so you can enjoy SANSFIRE 2008 stress-free. The Metro subway system is right next door to the hotel and is known as one of the cleanest and most efficient transport systems in the world.
The majority of tourist attractions in DC are free, such as the Smithsonian — the largest museum complex in the world. Only blocks away from the hotel is the National Zoo featuring our rare giant panda bears. The International Spy Museum, while not free, is the only public museum in the world solely dedicated to the history of espionage. New this year to Washington DC is the Newseum, which is dedicated to the history of news, and the National Museum of Crime and Punishment, which explores crime, forensics, and crime scene investigations.
Some helpful Web sites to check out are the city's official site at http://www.washington.org, http://www.dcpages.com, and http://www.washingtonian.com where you'll find details on all of the local attractions. In addition I am a city local, so please feel free to send me an e-mail at Brian@sans.org if I can offer any additional ideas or tips to make sure you have the best time possible at SANSFIRE 2008.
See you at the US Capitol!
Warm regards,
Brian Correia
