I am proud to announce that SANS is hosting the largest information security program Washington DC has ever seen! The nation's capitol has always proven to be our most popular location for training events and what better time to see this great city than right after Independence Day! You'll be able to join in celebrating the birthday of the United States with special fireworks, parades and free concerts throughout the entire week. And one of the bonuses of Washington DC is that the majority of tourist attractions are free, like the Smithsonian, which is the world's largest museum complex and research organization that features all manner of art, history, science, and more. With monuments around every corner, Washington DC boasts more attractions per square foot than anywhere in the world!

SANSFIRE 2006 will be held at the Wardman Park Marriott Hotel right in beautiful Woodley Park. High-speed Internet is included in the guest room rate but only if you book under the SANS group rate. The Metro subway system is only blocks from the hotel for all the locals attending SANSFIRE. And for our out-of-town visitors, the easy access to the Metro puts the city's best dining, shopping, entertainment, cultural venues, and landmarks at your fingertips! The Metro is known as one of the most efficient and clean transport systems in the world.

Within walking distance of the hotel is the National Zoo, featuring the newly born giant panda Tai Shan. Also near the hotel with its stately architecture and 215 stained-glass windows is the Washington National Cathedral. The National Museum of the American Indian is now open and is the first new attraction on the National Mall in over 20 years. And you must check out the new World War II Memorial. I can tell you from first hand experience that it is just breathtaking! The International Spy Museum, while not free, is the only public museum in the world solely dedicated to the tradecraft, history, and contemporary role of espionage.

• Driving Directions: Follow the signs to Washington D.C. (George Washington Parkway). Take I-395 North to Route 1 (Route 1 is the 14th Street Bridge). Merge to the far left lane on the bridge and follow the signs for 14th Street. Take 14th Street for 1 mile. Turn left onto K Street. Continue on K for 5 blocks. Turn right onto Connecticut. Ave. Follow Connecticut. Ave. for 1 mile. Cross over the William Taft Bridge. Make a left turn at the 3rd light after the bridge onto Woodley Rd. The Hotel entrance is on left. Continue on Constitution for 6 blocks and make a left turn onto 17th Street. This will change to Connecticut Ave. Continue on Connecticut. Ave. for 1 mile. Cross over the William Taft Bridge.
