In this overview we will try to cover the new and emerging biometric technique of Iris Recognition. The focus will be on image processing and computer vision aspects. Algorithms, systems and their experimental results will be reported. The various templates used will be analyzed in terms of performance and usability. Finally, the overview will cover standardization issues. Throughout the literature only three people have proposed systems: J. Daugman, R. Wildes, and W. Boles. We will describe all three proposals and analyze their similarities and dissimilarities. A detailed description of their systems as well as a detailed analysis of their performance will be reported.
