World-Class Security Training Tackles Today's Biggest Security Challenges

Canberra, AU, 4 June 2012 - SANS, along with their Australian training partner, Shearwater Solutions, today announced the return of SANS Canberra 2012, SANS' largest training event in the APAC Region, 2-10 July. Attendees will receive SANS' world-class information security training in Security Essentials, Hacker Techniques, Penetration Testing and Reverse-Engineering Malware.

The last year has had some shocking IT security breaches, highlighting that almost anyone can be a victim. What can we learn from these attacks and how can we make IT systems safer? In the view of Steve Armstrong, SANS Certified Instructor and former lead of the RAF's penetration and TEMPEST testing teams, "every breach serves as a lesson and can help highlight areas of potential weaknesses for other organizations."

Mr. Armstrong will teach Hacker Techniques, Exploits & Incident Handling, a 6-day course that includes access to the Virtual Training Lab. This hands-on course outlines the step-by-step approach used by many computer attackers as well as the latest attack vectors and how to stop them. Students of this course will come away with strategies and tools for proactively defending critical systems.

Mr. Armstrong will also teach Cloud Security Fundamentals. Launched earlier this year, this course is designed to help information security professionals understand the risks of cloud computing and safely migrate systems, applications and data into cloud environments. It covers a wide array of cloud security topics and aligns with the Cloud Security Alliance guidance and CCSK certification.

Reverse-Engineering Malware: Malware Analysis Tools and Techniques will be taught by Hal Pomeranz, SANS Faculty Fellow. This unique course provides a rounded approach to reverse-engineering by covering both behavioral and code phases of the analysis process. Morgan Harris of Booz Allen Hamilton speaks to the value of the 5-day Reverse-Engineering Malware course: "This course touches on the most novel, up-to-date malware challenges in today's world, and the instructor is great!"

SANS Canberra 2012 will feature presentations, hands-on training and networking opportunities with top security experts and SANS Certified Instructors including Jim Herbeck, Steve Armstrong, James Shewmaker, Hal Pomeranz and Steve Armstrong.

SANS Canberra 2012 will be held at SANS' Hotel Realm campus located at 18 National Circuit, Barton ACT. For more information on the event including panel and discussion overviews or to register, please visit: http://www.sans.org/info/105845
