Current Status Of New Orleans

Restaurants:

Nearly all of the high-profile eateries in the tourism areas are open and busy. Commander's Palace is scheduled to reopen by mid-October, and Emeril's Delmonico, is set for late October. In addition, on Sept. 18 celeb chef Todd English is opening a 170-seat French bistro called Riche in Harrah's Casino.

Tourist Attractions:

All of the major museums and attractions are open, including the Audubon Zoo, Harrah's, the Aquarium of the Americas, the newly renamed National WWII Museum (formerly the National D-Day Museum), Mardi Gras World and paddlewheel cruises on the Mississippi River. The establishments in the French Quarter, Jackson Square and Bourbon Street are also fully operational and are right next door to the hotel.

Shopping:

Major urban shopping destinations are open in the city including The Shops at Canal Place, The Riverwalk, Royal Street and other French Quarter antiques.

Safety:

The ratio of Police Officers are higher since Katrina: Police\Citizen: Pre-Katrina: 1\289, Post Katrina 1\157

Streetcar

Most of the streetcar lines are operating and the famous St. Charles Avenue line will begin to run sometime in 2007.

Air Transportation:

By November, 2006 the Louis Armstrong Airport will have almost 70% of flights back.

Music

The most popular music clubs and bars are rocking until the wee hours. One of the most popular, the House of Blues in the French Quarter, which is walking distance from the Sheraton, reports that concert grosses and attendance from January through July are ahead of last year, probably because of the large number of national acts that wanted to play in the city.
