What the US government breach tells us about the state of security

The Office of Personnel Management and the Department of Interior announced that hackers have stolen personal information from nearly 4 million current and former employees. Although the focus in the media has been on where the breach originated, this is a distraction from the central issue facing our government agencies and enterprises ' that detection systems are only effective where there are processes or people to respond to the alarm. We have an over reliance on detection to protect our data, when what is really needed is prevention. Additionally, the focus on who perpetrated the breach distracts us from the more productive questions of how and why.

During this webinar we will examine the how and why of the breach and discuss the need for protection. We will also share analytics from Veracode's cloud-based platform regarding the state of software security at government agencies.
